S.P.’s Story

Stearns County, MN

"If I didn't have my friends to talk to, I don't know where I would be."

First, you should know I have depression. When I lost two of my closest girlfriends in a car accident I hit a major low. I was hospitalized for almost two weeks, missing both funerals, and was in a wheelchair for three months. At my graduation my school's vice principal helped push me across the stage. It took me one month to walk again.

Luckily, I have friends who helped me. They let me vent and were there for me when I cried. If I didn't have my friends to talk to, I don't know where I would be. I probably wouldn't have my Legal Secretary Diploma and wouldn't be working as a medical records clerk at a mental health center. I am very grateful to have friends that are there for me, as I will always be there for them. I hope my story inspires others to reach out to their friends – friends can make a difference in their recovery.
